An Interview with KC Jones

I have been joined by the due KC Jones who have joined me to answer some questions about their musical career so you can find out a bit more about them!

Welcome to Totally Music would you like to introduce yourself?

Karen: Hi, I'm Karen Killeen-Jones

Colin: and I'm Colin Jones

Karen: and we are KC Jones, a husband and wife folk duo from Warwickshire

How did you meet?

Karen: I had a band and Colin joined as lead guitarist. When that ended we formed a duo

What inspires the music you create?

Karen: Life and observations. I write about subjects I believe in

You’ve just released your new album ‘Roots’ would you like to tell us about it?

Karen: It's a journey back to my folk roots after our first album "Captive" which was more eclectic so my intention was to write and arrange songs in a folk style. It features some fantastic guest musicians and has had some amazing reviews so far.

Colin: I love the album immensely, and I'm particularly proud of the harmonies and arrangements throughout the album

What is your favourite song from the album and why?

Karen: proud of all of the songs, but if I had to pick a favourite it would have to be "Time For Us To Leave You", described as an earworm, haha.

Colin: Goodbye Little Girl with its beautiful words and arrangement. I also enjoy "The Coming of the Cannon" which I sing

How did you come up with the artwork for the album?

Karen: I wanted a tree picture to represent "Roots" and found a suitable photograph I had taken from a park we visited so used that.

What is one thing you’ve learnt from the creation of the album which will help you in the future?

Karen: recording instruments using microphones rather than plugging in, to give a more natural sound

Colin: and for the first time we've used modern technology (the drums were recorded in Manchester!)

You’ve had your music played on BBC introducing what was that experience like?

Karen: amazing! They have played several tracks now. We're also very lucky to have another radio station, Dj Plug radio, who have been great supporters of our music.

What can fans expect from one of your gigs?

Colin: original authentic music with good musicianship and fine harmonies

Karen: an honest performance with something for everyone. Songs to make you laugh, cry and go home still singing them

What’s next for you?

Karen: Hopefully lots more venue gigs, festivals and radio plays!
